Radically pro-abortion news website Vox.com recently ran a piece detailing the horrors of mass abortion on male embryos. The perpetrators of the mass killing? The egg industry.
Vox reported that 6.5 billion male chicks are killed yearly, because male chickens aren't profitable to the egg industry, for obvious reasons (on second thought, the reasons may not be so obvious to publications like Vox...)
Because of advances in technology, egg farmers are able to determine whether the chick in each egg is male or female by day 13 in their incubation period in an effort to cull the eggs before the chicks hatch, but this obviously isn't good enough for the animal rights activists.
Scientists believe that chick embryos could potentially feel pain as early as day seven of their 21-day incubation period. That means that even with the most advanced in-ovo sexing, male chick embryos could still be experiencing suffering.
For the purpose of this article, we'll refer to day seven as the end of the egg's first trimester. So to summarize their argument, culling eggs after the first trimester is especially inhumane because the baby chicks are able to feel pain. It's really not a bad argument.
Interestingly, the end of the first trimester is when many scientists agree that human embryos are able to feel pain. But that's obviously totally irrelevant.
Live Action said it best when they summarized the story,
For Vox, it's an abhorrent injustice when chicken embryos are destroyed if they can feel pain, but it's empowering when a woman has an abortion, even if her human embryo or fetus can feel pain...
