You gotta love a dog who appreciates irony.

You got to love him dipping out of there right when the fire alarm goes off:

Fox News reports:

A recently released video captured the moment a dog belonging to a North Carolina assistant fire chief ironically sparked a small house fire by chewing on a lithium-ion battery.

The Chapel Hill Fire Department released the video last Monday showing Assistant Fire Chief David Sasser's dog, Colton, as the cause of the incident.

The fire department wrote on Facebook that Colton the pup "counter-surfed while his [owners] were away," grabbed the battery and "[broke] its protective features by chewing on it," leading to the fire.

The department stressed the dangers these batteries can pose:

They store a lot of energy in a small place, from power tools and headphones to laptops and smart watches. If overcharged or damaged, these batteries can overheat, start a fire, or explode.

Thankfully, nobody was hurt, including the pup; the Sasser family just had to toss out the rug.

Thanks for the cheap lesson in fire safety, Colton!
