Diversity is our strength!
Some context from The Daily Wire:
Brenda Mooney, an air traffic controller at Denton Enterprise Airport in Texas, was reportedly caught on a recording advising the pilot, who said he had been flying for 15 years, with her Google-derived information.
...
A petition was launched to get Mooney removed from her position; it stated, "Her actions are not only jeopardizing pilot safety but also damaging the reputation of our city, Denton. It has reached a point where her conduct is attracting national attention - an unfortunate circumstance that does not reflect well on our community."
In essence, a short approach is when a pilot makes a request to land the plane quicker. Instead of waiting in a normal flight pattern to land, the pilot has an abbreviated route.
Here are two pictures from a piloting video that shows what a normal versus short approach looks like:
One Mile At A Time explains why this interaction is so important:
Keep in mind that this is all happening on the frequency during a critical phase of flight for pilots, when the focus is supposed to be on safely direct[ing] pilots.
In essence, the pilot was doing a steep, modified approach that required focus ... but he had this lady snapping at him about her extensive Google knowledge.
