It may be difficult to find new ways to spice up a high-speed police chase, but one guy in California managed to do it by stopping to get gas while he was fleeing.

The chase happened on Friday night, after the guy stole the blue Infinity 250. To escape police, the thief weaved in and out of traffic at more than 100 mph.

More from ZeroHedge:

Video showed him at a Shell station in Wilshire, Los Angeles, nervously fueling up with his shirt pulled over his face, according to the New York Post. A motorcyclist at the next pump seemed unaware of the drama.

'He couldn't be acting any more suspicious, I'll tell you that,' a news chopper reporter remarked. The reporter also noted no police were nearby, giving the man over a minute to fill up.

Whether it was the perp being the coolest customer ever, completely loony, or just being on empty in the middle of the chase, it made for an entertaining spectacle.

The Post, citing KABC, writes that after calmly screwing the nozzle back on, he sped away, later driving under an overpass to dodge helicopters. He abandoned the car, which rolled into a light pole.

The chopper reporter called it, 'Maybe his smartest move of the night.'

The suspect was still at large, with authorities believing he may have escaped with the help of someone driving another vehicle.

Here's hoping they do track him down. Not just to administer justice for any crimes he may have committed, but also to give the guy the credit he deserves for giving one of the all-time police chase performances.
