Being a first responder is a very hard job. These guys go out and risk their lives every day, work long hours for little pay, and get little respect for it.
So you gotta love it when these hardworking servants get a break and have the chance to let off some steam and just blow up some dynamite:
Utah officials were forced to blow up a house in a controlled explosion after the homeowner found old dynamite.
The Unified Fire Authority blew up a house in Holladay at 4 am on April 24 after the female owner found large amounts of old dynamite stashed in her deceased husband's belongings.
You gotta feel for this lady. You can only imagine what it must be like for a widow to find dynamite "in her deceased husband's belongings."
It was a lot of dyno, too:
The Assistant Chief believes that the dynamite was about 40 to 60 years old. Firefighters were able to find 25 sticks outside and eight in the basement near various chemicals.
Police said the dynamite "had been passed down from generation to generation before the elderly woman found it." (Because apparently that's something you do in Utah?)
Whatever the reason for that odd discovery, the lady made the right decision and called the police. And the police, of course, wasted no time in doing the right thing:
It's a beautiful thing to see, folks. Brings a tear to your eye.
And you got to love this good old boy barely containing his glee after the fireworks show:
There was, as you might imagine, nothing left of the house:
Police evacuated hundreds of residents in the area before the explosion; nearly all of them were able to return home shortly thereafter.
Thankfully, the woman was able to remove "some of her irreplaceable belongings" before police nuked her house.
Good job to the Unified Fire Authority!
