"We cannot let our guard down": For the last year creepy dudes in North Carolina have reportedly been attempting to flag down drivers and ask for weird favors
· Dec 16, 2022 · NottheBee.com

Sometimes the local stories are the weirdest ones:

Some TikTok videos are getting hundreds and thousands of views, sounding the alarm on people you might see flagging down cars on Interstate 85 exit ramps in Gaston and Mecklenburg counties.

Police and local leaders tell WBTV they have heard similar stories and are warning people to steer clear.

To be sure, none of the behavior is reportedly criminal. But it is unsettling nevertheless:

"There is a man in North Carolina where I live that seems to be trying to get ladies to stop on exit ramps as you enter a highway, and I saw this with my own eyes yesterday," [radio personality Sarah] Lee on her TikTok.

The video posted shows a man standing outside of a black SUV along an I-85 exit ramp.

Drivers have reported the man trying to stop people driving by, at times jumping out in front of cars and waving them down to stop.

Could be something, could be nothing. Lee claimed she had seen the fellow some time ago, only for him to disappear for several months before popping up again.

It sounds like this may be some kind of scam ring, one where the guy eventually brings out some cheap jewelry to sell you.

Whatever's happening, according to police it's been going on for about a year:

"We're aware of this behavior/incidents going on. It's been happening for around a year or so in this area. Not all of these interactions are criminal – as many times the individuals are proposing a legitimate civil transaction. There have been some that end up in a report due to the suspects escalating their behavior."

The only thing we know for sure, of course, is: Be careful, be vigilant, don't take unnecessary risks, ladies especially.

There is one more critical detail to this story, however:

Drivers have reported this man is driving a black suburban with a Florida license plate.

A Florida man! This explains so much!
