Kamala's campaign picked Maryland's governor to defend Tim Walz's military record on TV. Turns out he lied about receiving a Bronze Star.

Maryland Democrat Wes Moore served in the Army in Afghanistan and is a veteran of the War on Terror.

But I guess veteran status wasn't enough for the governor, as he apparently decided that he needed a medal to prove his valor. The only problem, of course, is that he didn't earn a medal.

But the Democrat wasn't going to let that stand in the way.

This is from The New York Times. Not exactly a right-wing publication.

For reasons that remain unexplained, two television interviewers, Gwen Ifill and Stephen Colbert, had wrongly introduced him years earlier as a recipient of the award. Mr. Moore failed to correct them, even as he and his aides insisted he had never told anyone he had a Bronze Star.

But at least once, Mr. Moore, now the state's Democratic governor, did say he had received the award.

What the heck is up with Democrat governors and stolen valor? Why the embellishment of their service?

They could just say that they served honorably and left it at that. But apparently they can't help but lie.

He made the claim on an application for a prestigious White House fellowship in 2006, when he was 27 years old, according to a copy of the document that was obtained this week by The New York Times as part of a Freedom of Information Act request.

'For my work,' he wrote, 'the 82nd Airborne Division have awarded me the Bronze Star Medal and the Combat Action Badge.'

However, when Mr. Moore submitted the application in January 2006, he had not been awarded either the Bronze Star or the Combat Action Badge. He was awarded the badge in May 2006 for an episode the previous December, but there is no record showing that he ever received a Bronze Star, an Army spokeswoman said.

The hilarious part of this story is two-fold.

First, this story apparently came back to light because Kamala was vetting Moore for the VP job and this stolen valor was problematic.

Second, well, I'll let The Times explain it:

And as Republicans accuse the man Ms. Harris ultimately chose as her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, of exaggerating his military record, the vice president's campaign has dispatched Mr. Moore to defend him on cable television.

Tim Walz literally sent the OTHER stolen valor Democrat governor onto cable TV to defend him from stolen valor accusations.

Could the Harris-Walz campaign be any more incompetent?

Apparently, Moore included the Bronze Star on an application to be a White House fellow in 2006 at the urging of his general, who thought he was a shoe-in for the medal and had already begun the paperwork.

However, Moore never received the medal. But he still got the fellowship from George W!

Then, he was routinely referred to in the media as a Bronze Star recipient and he just never corrected anyone. For nearly two decades.

And now he got the job of defending Tim Walz from stolen valor accusations.
