Every year, parents go nuts over that one special gift that stores just can't keep in stock.

Last year it was the Little Live Pets - Mama Surprise. 👇

Here are some of the favorites retailers and toy experts had pegged for this year's big gift:

Making a surprise comeback: Furby.

A gravity defying remote-control car:

Barbie the movie dolls:

And my favorite, a blanket fort tinker toy mashup:

But as pre-Black Friday sales roll in, it's become painfully obvious that none of these toys are the run-away winner for the Christmas season.

In fact, rather than being impossible to find, many of them are being marked-down in retailers to sell them at all.

What's that one special thing parents want to get their kids for Christmas this year?

Thanks to Bidenomics, retailers and toy manufacturers say it's (drumroll please)..

FOOD!

That's right... Walmart says customers are spending more than 60% of their purchases on food and daily necessities. There's just no cushion for big holiday spending on things like toys.

"The most important thing for people this holiday is to have food on the table for their families," Isaac Larian, CEO of Bratz doll maker MGA Entertainment, said in an interview.

Toy giants Mattel and Hasbro have slashed their revenue guidance for the year, seeing their stock plummet.

"We have a cautious outlook on the holiday," CEO Chris Cocks said during Hasbro's earnings call Thursday. "We do not have a real solid view on where the market will go."
