Pretty much every kid who ever rode down a slide on the playground at one point or another thought to himself: "Gee, wouldn't it be great if this slide was 100 feet high?"

Well, kids (and adults!) can now get what they've always wanted courtesy of the state of Virginia. "The Whorl" is now open in Owl Creek Landing in Virginia Beach:

From WTKR:

Owl Creek Landing officially opened a new stainless-steel spiral slide, dubbed 'The Whorl,' at the Nautilus Lookout Tower on Monday.

The 65-foot lookout tower, which is located behind the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center's south building, now houses what developers have called the longest stainless-steel slide in the U.S. It currently sits at 117 feet tall.

One hundred and seventeen feet tall is pretty stinkin' tall. It's just a few feet shorter than the towering Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil:

Of course, being stainless steel, this thing could easily get pretty hot during the summer months. Thankfully, "most of the slide is enclosed, and participants will descend on specially designed mats," so hopefully they won't cook themselves on the way down.

And you gotta admit, this thing looks pretty sweet:

And, since you're doubtlessly curious, the tallest slide in the country, stainless steel or otherwise, is the "Rise of Icarus" at Mount Olympus Resort in Wisconsin, at 145 feet:

Man, I love a good slide!
