In this week's episode of tearing down Christian society...
Pope Francis has approved an official Vatican document to allow transgender people to be baptized in the Catholic Church and serve as godparents at Roman Catholic baptisms.
The document was approved on October 31 and was just made public yesterday.
The doctrinal office stated that transgender people can now be baptized as long as there is "no risk of causing a public scandal or disorientation among the faithful."
(Ah, so they admit this could be problematic.)
Also, according to the document, transgender and homosexual people are allowed to serve as witnesses in a Catholic wedding.
This decision comes in the wake of the pope expressing a willingness to bless same-sex unions within the Church.
So, you may as well throw out the entire book at this point.
Back in July, Pope Francis published a letter in the Vatican News where he explained that, yes, the Church has "a very clear understanding of marriage: an exclusive, stable, and indissoluble union between a man and a woman, naturally open to procreation" BUT he advocates for "pastoral charity."
However, in our relationships with people, we must not lose the pastoral charity, which should permeate all our decisions and attitudes. The defence of objective truth is not the only expression of this charity; it also includes kindness, patience, understanding, tenderness, and encouragement. Therefore, we cannot be judges who only deny, reject, and exclude.
Therefore, pastoral prudence must adequately discern whether there are forms of blessing, requested by one or more persons, that do not convey a mistaken concept of marriage. For when a blessing is requested, it is expressing a plea to God for help, a supplication to live better, a trust in a Father who can help us live better.
The department, known as the Dicastery of the Doctrine of the Faith, provided a vague response to the inquiry about whether a Church baptism could be conducted for a child adopted by a same-sex couple or one born through a surrogate mother.
You see how this all starts to get very complicated?
As we've already seen, this pope has gone full woke (and everyone knows you should never go full woke), and he's tried to make the Church more welcoming to the alphabet gang, but even he is struggling with where to draw the line. According to Reuters, the pope says same-sex attraction is not sinful, but same-sex acts are.
I am not too sure those two things work exclusively...
Father James Martin, a prominent supporter of LGBT rights in the Church, called this decision "an important step forward in the Church seeing transgender people not only as people (in a Church where some say they don't really exist) but as Catholics."
This is a major step towards woke policy and a huge step away from the Church and what the Church teaches. While progressives and atheists glee at this news, there are many people out there who are not happy about this shift.
It's interesting to see the alphabet gang celebrate this news. As if now that the Catholic Church has offered them more privileges, they will start living a Christ-like life.
I just don't see how this will lead more people to the Church. I, sadly, only see how this will force people out.
[Editor's Note: Baptism in the Catholic Church is seen as a sacrament of sanctifying grace; that is, to be unbaptized means you are unregenerate and not adopted as a son or daughter of God. This is a big deal to Catholics, so allowing men who act like women to be baptized is insane considering God's words in Deuteronomy 22:5: "A woman must not wear men's clothing, nor a man wear women's clothing, for the LORD your God detests anyone who does this." The Apostle Paul's words in 1 Corinthians 6:9 also condemns homosexuality with a specific call out to "effeminate" men who play the woman's role in sex, a unifying fetish among men who call themselves "transgender."]
