Okay, I have to say I'm 100% not surprised at all with the words coming out of this lady's mouth. Just based on three things โ the red highlights in her hair, the glasses, and the "queer" sweatshirt โ I already know where this little lecture is going: White supremacy.
We'll start with the fatphobia stuff, but I promise you there'll be a mention of white supremacy or your money back.
Good grief that was tough to watch!
Anyhow, I'll quote her a little bit while we're here:
Generally speaking, there's three kind of big buckets of reasons why someone might engage in intentional weight loss.
Okay, gonna have to stop you there, fat activist.
"Intentional weight loss"?!?!?
You mean like deciding to become a healthier person?
I'm already dumber having heard you speak.
Our fat activist goes on to list her three reasons for "intentional weight loss."
First is desirability, second health, third stigma...
So if you are wanting to lose weight in order to become more desirable you are upholding a fatphobic beauty standard โ as well as you know, white supremacy and all that jazz.
There it is!
White supremacy, everyone.
It's everywhere!!
I'm not even going to elaborate much more on what she says here. Essentially, "weight is not a good indicator of someone's health and also your health is not an indicator of your worth," and something about how the stigma against fat people is so strong that sometimes fat people want to change who they are because they are fat and people think it's gross.
And all of this wanting to not be fat is bad...unless:
It's really important that if you still go through with intentional weight loss that you don't sacrifice fat liberation politics.
The Woke:
Yup, you can go ahead and lose some weight, but don't you ever, EVER start treating fatphobia as if it's not on the same level as racism or sexism or any of the other "isms" out there. Fatphobia is real, and anyone who thinks being fat is somehow bad is definitely a white supremacist!
