But the woke cultists want to live their best Orwell life now by redefining words every time you nail down a definition.
This is meant to confuse you.
The most recent round of "stop paying attention to what we're doing" came in this exchange this week:
Bethany Mandel is a conservative author and commentator. She's an intelligent woman. She had a bit of a brain stall because the term "woke" is an umbrella for a series of related poisons.
But this caused the wokies to say anyone using the term "woke" who isn't woke is actually a RACIST!
(Translation: "You are a racist if you notice what we are doing.")
Let's start here: "Woke" is a slang term used to describe a myriad of Marxist ideologies that have merged and formed a religion based on class warfare and perpetual revolution that requires the "awakening" of one's mind to work toward collectivist utopia.
Without the fancy words, you know what "woke" means in your gut. You feel it in your bones.
But articulating it is difficult in the same way that describing Baal worship in ancient Israel and Sumeria is difficult, or explaining the communist revolution in 1917 Russia is difficult. Wokeism is a religious order that has its own creeds, confessions, original sins, path to redemption, priesthood, icons, saints, and martyrs. It is a new brand on the same original human condition. If you put people like Jemelle Hill next to the ancient priests of Pharaoh who opposed Moses, you'd see an uncanny philosophical resemblance.
And not only is it difficult to define, the woke don't want you to be able to define it. You can't fight against something that has no concrete definition. It's like fighting ghosts in the ether.
Like I said, one of the tenets of Marxism and wokeness is perpetual revolution. This means you introduce a new term, ram through a bunch of laws, guilt, and cultural changes, then abandon that term as wrong or bigoted when your enemies pick up on it.
The way we win this war is by not playing the "politically correct" language games. For example, calling individuals "people of color" is literally no different than saying "colored people," but they've trained you to be good little sheep who use the first term because they added a preposition to make it sound nicer.
Forcing you to say "trans man" or even "biological male," along with terms like "cisgender" (and God help us, "pregnant people") is how they get control of you. You have to refuse to use the fake words or you accept their reality and they win.
But more on that in a moment.
For now, let's nail down how the woke play mind games so you can beat them.
This is why individuals such as Chris Rufo, Ron DeSantis, Matt Walsh, and James Lindsay have seen real gains in pushing back against wokeism.
When the cultists say "you can't define blue," they point at the sky and say "THAT is blue."
The fact that many of you know what "CRT" and "DEI" mean is a threat to the woke religion. You know their confessions and catechisms. You know the language of the faithful. They hate that, so they'll call you bigoted for shining a light on their faith because light always scatters the cockroaches and parasites.
And so we come back to the definition of woke:
Woke is shorthand for Wokeness or Wokism.
Wokism is the belief that:
- all of society is currently and intentionally structured to oppress,
- all gaps in performance between large groups illustrate this, and
- the solution is 'equity' - proportional representation w/o regard to performance.
It really is not that hard.
Anyone with a middle school education can learn the definition and remember it.

Woke: (sometimes called Critical Social Justice) is a type of social justice politics that claims systemic identity based discrimination such as racism, sexism, homophobia, white privilege, and other sorts of injustice are baked into the fabric of society. In short, society is oppressive. They believe this occurs through "systems of power" which were created for the benefit people who are white, straight, and male, at the expense of everyone else. This power operates through cultural hegemony (cultural dominance) and by socializing people into accepting the legitimacy of this oppressive system, and accepting their place in it. Wokeness claims these systems of power warp every element of western culture in a way that harms people, and for that reason all of society must be radically restructured. Everything, including science, knowledge, truth, beauty, economics, education, sports, music, film, agriculture, justice and everything else on society are full of bigotries, biases and self-interest which are a product of the systems of power which were created by and for straight white males. On this view even such things as math, biology, physics, and chemistry must be radically rebuilt with a focus toward diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice, anti-racism, and so fourth.
