Australian woman Jay Langadinos is suing psychiatrist Dr. Patrick Toohey for professional negligence after he approved hormone treatment for her "gender dysphoria" and the removal of her breasts and uterus.

"Knowing that I can't have children is absolutely devastating," she said.

Toohey recommended Langandinos receive hormone treatment after their first meeting in 2010. She was 19 years old at the time.

The court filing says Toohey noted from their first meeting that Langadinos had "a past history of significant social phobia and depression which may have been beyond gender dysphoria."

He later approved the removal of her breasts and uterus in 2012. Toohey wrote that he could find no "psychiatrist contraindication to proceeding with hysterectomy as part of gender transition," according to the filing.

Langandinos alleges Toohey was negligent for not recommending she get a second opinion about getting a hysterectomy.

In 2016, Langadinos said she "came to the realization that she should not have undergone the hormone therapy or the first and second surgeries." In 2020, she asked an endocrinologist about stopping her testosterone treatment.

Langadinos, who is now 31 years old, claims she now suffers from various disabilities, complications, and injuries as a result of the treatment and surgeries.
