Finally! A true conservative has entered the race to recall Gavin Newsom as California governor. That conservative is prominent black talk radio host Larry Elder.
The Sage of South Central, as he is known to many on the right, made the announcement Monday evening on his nationally syndicated radio show, then later on Twitter. Elder is running in an effort to bring the state of California back from the abyss.
Elder took to Twitter before making his announcement, releasing a selfie video of himself sitting in his bathrobe, like a boss, I might add, where he harshly and in no uncertain terms bashed current Democrat governor Gavin Newsom, specifically for his handling of Covid-19.
Newsweek covered his radio announcement and highlights the decision-making process Elder went through in choosing to run for Governor.
Elder said months ago he was approached by Dennis Prager to run. Elder said he thanked him but said "Hell, no. I think this state is un-governable."
But then Elder said more people that he respected suggested he run.
"The more I thought about it and the more egregious the behavior of Gavin Newsom was as he sits there with the very people that drafted the coronavirus outline at The French Laundry ... it's egregious..."
"Maybe just maybe I can do something about it," said Elder, noting that Newsom has no spending limits but he does and supporters can donate at his website at ElectElder.com.
Elder is hoping to stake out his campaign by taking the conservative lane. According to Politico:
Facing a Friday deadline to enter the race, Elder appears to be targeting conservative voters who may not be motivated by other Republican candidates, which include former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer; businessman John Cox; former Rep. Doug Ose; former reality TV star and Olympian Caitlyn Jenner; Kiley and Gaines.
Elder seems to be the only true conservative running for governor. The other most recognized name in the race is transgender activist Caitlyn Jenner, not exactly a conservative stalwart.
For the sake of California, we can all hope that Elder's campaign takes off and he is able to truly battle against the failed governor Newsom.
