Youth pastor suspended for giving “I ❤️ hot youth pastors” stickers to the teen girls in his youth group.

Okay, youth pastors, here's a lesson about what not to do. Ever.

The youth pastor in question is named Cory Wall. When the proverbial stuff hit the proverbial fan, and accusations of grooming started flying; Cory sent out this email:

"Let me assure you that my intentions were pure, I the last thing I wanted to do was to make you, your sister, or anyone else in attendance feel uncomfortable," Wall allegedly wrote.

"The sticker was meant to poke fun of the ‘I Love Hot Mom' culture. In hindsight, the joke was of very poor taste and a mistake on my part. I do apologize for their distribution."

Oops!

Listen youth pastors, regardless of what your intentions might be, handing out stickers to the teenage girls in your congregation about how hot you are is never the right thing to do.

And for the senior pastors shaking their heads about this guy, here's a lesson in how not to handle the youth pastor asking minors in your congregation to display signs about how hot he is: the church sent out the following email in support of their youth pastor:

The church leadership being aware of his porn addiction issue and talking about it with their kids really set parents off.

At this point, the proverbial fan was so full of the proverbial stuff, it had stopped moving all together, so the church changed course and put the youth pastor on leave while they investigate.

"Cory has been placed on administrative leave and will not be involved in student leadership responsibilities while this situation is being investigated. There will be a thorough and comprehensive investigation," the church leaders added. "We take this matter very seriously and want to be proactive as we move forward. Our main goal is to always make our campus a safe place for anyone who attends."

Now, what the youth pastor did was dumb, and porn addiction is a serious issue even in the church, and God gives grace to us all; however with all that said, given all the trouble the Southern Baptist Convention has been in because of the Guidepost Solutions report on SBC sex abuse scandals and the subsequent release of the SBC secret list of known SBC pastors and staff that have been charged and convicted of sexual abuse, you would hope every church would be taking these issues seriously.

And it is serious. The same conscientiousness and self-control that prevent most adults from trying to get kids to talk about their hotness is what keeps most of them from doing other inappropriately sexual things with kids.

Maybe Wall's intentions weren't what they appear; it's impossible to know because they do appear inappropriate.

And that's the problem with trying to make Jesus relevant to our ever-shifting culture.

We need to become more relevant to Jesus, not the other way around.
