Just days after Hamas terrorists used hang gliders to murder innocent civilians in the bloodiest and deadliest attack on Jewish citizens since Hitler's holocaust, the brain trust over at the Chicago chapter of Black Lives Matter offered up this grotesque social media post that sparked outrage:
Why would anyone be surprised? I understand the indignation, but absolutely no one should have been astonished that an organization that reveled in burning down black neighborhoods, terrorizing black communities, looting black-owned businesses, and indiscriminately killing black security guards would endorse lawless and mindless terrorism. Anyone who expected anything better than disgrace from a group that has humiliated its well-intentioned initial supporters, and that has proven themselves as contemptable as BLM has, demands a level of professional assistance I just can't offer.
What is far more alarming to me is how flabbergasted so many seem to be at the sight of supposedly distinguished colleges and universities outing themselves as moral cesspools in the aftermath of Israel's 9/11.
The collective descent of higher education into a morass of ethical turpitude has been anything but covert. Even in my sleepy little midwestern town I've witnessed firsthand how effortlessly university culture can radicalize young people. It's one of the most depressing aspects of my job - observing how seemingly grounded and rational 18-year-olds with a good upbringing can painlessly fall victim to mindless conformity to the spirit of the age.
Even small, "Christian," liberal arts colleges manage to indoctrinate and generate a brigade of brainwashed malcontents who invent the stupidest reasons to feel aggrieved despite their inordinate privilege. How bad can it get? You're seeing it right now, pouring onto social media from the overflow of their corrupted and converted hearts.
"Israel bears full responsibility for this tremendous loss of life. This regime of state-sanctioned violence created the conditions that made resistance necessary."
NYU Law, Student Bar Association
-
"The instigator and perpetuator of this sustained injustice cannot then justifiably claim victimhood when the oppressed rise in response to such oppression."
Northwestern University, Students for Justice
-
"Settlers are not civilians. This is not hard."
Yale anthropology professor Zareena Grewal
-
"We, the undersigned student organizations, hold the Israeli regime entirely responsible for all unfolding violence."
Harvard University "Solidarity Groups"
You can attempt to explain that a hundred different ways, talk endlessly about nuance and "context," but it all boils down to the same conclusion. A significant portion of America's next generation have become apologists for terrorism.
No, this isn't open-mindedness, diversity, or critical thinking. It's anti-thinking. It's uninformed, unscholarly, anti-intellectual emotionalism wrapped up in the thinnest veil that academic language can hope to provide. There's nothing smart about this. Consider the unbridled buffoonery of a campus culture that bemoans microaggressions as "violence" while it concurrently rallies in support of those who kill Jewish toddlers for sport.
I can't imagine it being said better than Charles C.W. Cooke did here:
It is simply not within the normal bounds of human behavior to look at what has happened in Israel and to filter one's instinctive moral reaction through whatever goofy, specious, ugly ideology one might have picked up in an overpriced seminar hall when aged 19. In their proper place, terms such as "colonialism," "imperialism," and "occupation" can be descriptively useful; as a response to the news that a bunch of armed savages have just massacred a thousand innocent people in cold blood, they are utterly, disastrously, spectacularly irrelevant.
If your unholy allegiance to the Marxist "oppressor/oppressed" ideology has so addled your mind that your first reaction to the news that a ruthless gang of barbarians butchered babies, raped young women at a concert, executed elderly women while live-streaming the slaughter on the deceased's social media accounts, and slit the throats of fathers in the presence of their own terrified children is to post about "colonialism" or "resistance" or "imperialism" or "occupation," you aren't sophisticated, woke, or enlightened.
You are Satan's fool.
Unable to make the elementary distinction between good and evil, you have become the latter's useful idiot, senselessly posting and prattling on about justice while making justifications and offering validations for rape and murder.
If the West collapses it won't be because it was invaded by bloodthirsty savages riding motorized paragliders into our streets. It will be because we allowed our children to come to believe those savages were the good guys.
