They couldn't do it. They couldn't just leave me alone.
I was content to let them have their Circus Maximus. They could dabble in their greed, lust, and pride from those stately palaces in DC or those red-carpet runways in Tinseltown and if they wanted to use their God-given freedoms so foolishly, I wasn't going to stop them.
For years, I was happy to work from sunup to sundown to provide for my family, even if we couldn't afford much. A 17-year-old minivan? A blessing. A small home built in the '50s? Beyond our wildest hopes and dreams.
We were on the slow march to being happy little footnotes in history: A family content to let the depraved world do its thing while we did ours.
It could have stayed that way too.
But they just couldn't leave me the heck alone.
I began to see a lot of rot under the surface - a lurking crocodile under the still waters of our culture, increasingly hungry by the minute. I started paying attention to the media. These outlets full of shiny, fake faces were lying, and the lies weren't particularly hard to see. They'd scream about Donald Trump, about Brett Kavanaugh, about the evils of "whiteness," and I began to realize something was wrong.
I worked at a Christian foundation and a conservative think tank in 2019, and in both places I began to see institutional slide toward the sex-and-identity cult of our day. I wondered what in the heck was going on.
I often wonder if they would have gotten away with it without Covid. It took me forever to realize I was the frog boiling in the pot. Then, all of a sudden, tens of millions of people were aware of the rot. Trillions of dollars went out the door. Multi-generational businesses shuttered. Unelected bureaucrats told us to close our churches and suspended private property rights.
In the wake of that, you'd think they'd slow down, but no. They opened the border, pushed gay sex propaganda on our kids, told us to "be less white," told lies about racism and crime, made the absolute worst criminals into martyrs, threw grandmas into jail. They can't help it.
In the midst of it, they take our money - money that we earn and that is supposed to go to taxes to benefit us - and use it to house military-aged migrants who beat up NYC cops and rape kids. They use it to pay men pretending to be women as "health" officials. They use it to coordinate censorship with social media. They use it so the president can joke about bombing me and my daughters with F-15s. They use it so congressional staffers can film themselves having gay sex in a Senate hearing room and face no charges. They use it to send a SWAT team to kick in the door of a Catholic dad who pushed down a rabid abortion activist who tried to assault his son. They use it to jail Christians for a decade because they sang hymns and prayed in front of an abortion clinic.
It's my money, it's our money ... and they use it to actively try to destroy us.
They couldn't leave me alone, and so now I'm involved.
And there's nothing I'm not willing to lose.
- You think you can threaten me with financial ruin? Sorry, swamp creatures, but you've already cut our family deep there. I've had nothing before and I can do it again.
- You think you can destroy me socially? Sorry, but I already learned how to stand up and be the one person in the whole dang grocery store not wearing a cloth mask. You gave me great practice at being a social outcast to fight for a greater cause.
- You think you can threaten my kids? Sorry, but you're already trying to convert them into little cultists and you're taking them away from parents who fight back. Over my literal, actual dead body.
- You think you can guilt me? Sorry, but I know what the Bible says and I see the mass suffering you are creating - the criminals you adore, the pedophiles you protect, the blood and treasure you seek, and the trafficking pipelines you make. And worse of all, you teach the children of Narnia there is no Aslan. No, I know exactly where my Christian duty lies.
- You think you can threaten my life? I believe in Jesus Christ and the hope of resurrection. Go full Nero and use my body to light the streets of Rome. Death does not scare me.
There is only one thing besides God Almighty that I fear now.
"What do you fear, lady?" he asked.
"A cage," she said. "To stay behind bars, until use and old age accept them, and all chance of doing great deeds is gone beyond recall or desire."
I've been writing this in first person up until this point, not because I am alone, but because tens of millions of you are just like me.
You understand exactly what I'm saying.
It's one thing to run a tax farm for a global empire and party it up while your peasants aren't paying attention and the ones who are stay quiet because they are scared of losing everything.
But what happens when the peasants aren't scared of what they could lose anymore? What if fighting for a good and honorable death in a righteous cause is all that matters to them now? What if they are thinking less about this life and more about what they will say when they stand to give an account of their deeds before God Almighty?
We are those people now. The people who wanted to be left alone. The dangerous millions who understand that it is right and just to be dangerous for a good cause.
...when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.
I do not want this government of meddlers anymore, and I am tired of pretending that I do. None of them are guards for my future security.
So what comes next?
This is not a call to violence. That day may come, but I will not give the FBI agents who comb through Christian news outlets the satisfaction of thinking I am qualified to understand when the time for such things will be upon us. "If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all."
But we are in the middle of that "long train of abuses and usurpations," and America's firebrand founders didn't write "if in the course of human events," but "when."
When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another...
For right now, the answer is to quit playing their game a little each day. We no longer take them seriously. They are jesters in hell's court. All of civilization is a game - a game that all people play, from which drink tumbler is popular at the moment to how our taxes are collected. We all play at a grow-up version of the recess playground every day.
The bullies can have their games. Let us create our own. Get married. Stay faithful. Have kids. Build things with your own hands. Gather and worship. When the time comes where they tell you that you must bow down to the golden idol, don't. Maybe that means you don't pay taxes if Congress funds baby murder. Maybe that means you stop being a couch potato waiting for the next consumer item to drop and you train your body to be in fighting shape. Maybe that means you tell them to pound sand when they tell you to register your weapons.
Maybe that means you ignore the White House when it tells you to tear down your border fencing.
The road to reform begins with civil disobedience to the clowns and obedience to God.
They want to elevate it from there to prove who is in charge? Fine. Let them arrest us in front of the whole world for being good people doing good things in our own little corner of humanity. Let them drag us into court for the crime of protecting and educating our children. Let us do such good with such joy that it confuses and scares them when they jail us.
Let us sharpen ourselves into bright and happy swords that they have no armor against.
Being bitter men who isolate ourselves except for a trip to the gun range or the brewery is not how you defeat darkness. Being bitter men who spend hours surfing social media so we can become even more bitter is not how we prepare ourselves to be valorous.
What comes next is sacrifice for good and disobedience to evil. Lots and lots of it. It will require the sacrifice of loving and kind and, yes, dangerous people like you and me. You must be willing to be "dragged before governors and kings" for the sake of what's right.
Before you complain about the regime or wokeness or any of it, commit your heart to that singular goal. If you are afraid or bitter, you will be of no use in the fight.
Whoever is fearful and trembling, let him return home and hurry away from Mount Gilead.
See, they could have left me alone to be a Midwestern nobody with a few kids and a house in Nowhereville, USA. But now they've made me into a warrior hellbent on spending my career and 60+ hours a week destroying every single thing they've built, and to do so with my hopeful head held high because I do so to "rescue those being led away to death" and "hold back those staggering toward slaughter."
