Is it some coordinated attack that is unfolding or is it just the haphazard smattering of the restless evil that is always stalking humanity? It doesn't take much time at all when researching sociological data to discover the tragic consequences befalling any society that neglects or corrupts the development of strong nuclear families (dad, mom, kids).
Yet, earlier this week, South Dakota State Representative Erin Healy made a national splash with her vitriolic attack on common sense. Directing her ire towards a pro-family group called Family Heritage Alliance, Healy called "un-American" and "dangerous" the idea that the nuclear family is the safest place for kids:
What does that even mean? Every statistic, every study, every piece of sociological research for the last century affirms what Family Heritage Alliance is saying.
Then, just a couple days after that mindless tweet, a reader at Not the Bee tagged me in a social post highlighting this monstrosity that argues the family should be abolished:
I only read the opening paragraph to this point, but it's obviously going down Healy's same path. Those of us who recognize the importance of the nuclear family are not now, nor have we ever suggested our celebration of in-tact family units means that no other family arrangement can be safe. It doesn't mean that single parenting is bad or immoral. It doesn't "discriminate" by enacting any policy limitations. It simply points out the truth – that nuclear families work the best and therefore a sane society will promote them and do all it can to help them flourish.
Why is this hard?
You know what else isn't hard? Running an issues-based, policy-focused, serious campaign for the presidency. Yet Donald Trump is already proving (to no one's great surprise) that he is incapable of managing it. In the last week alone, Trump has:
Petulantly leaked his new childish nickname for Governor Ron DeSantis:
Weighed in on serious matters like the quality of Rihanna's Super Bowl halftime show:
…and the one time he did wade into a policy debate against a declared Republican opponent, he echoed the far left in going after Nikki Haley's plans to deal with the Social Security/Medicare entitlement crisis.
Again I will point out the smartest thing for Republicans to do is to celebrate the achievements made under Trump, thank him for those accomplishments, and then move on. His continued presence as the face of the party greatly diminishes the seriousness with which the upcoming primary will be conducted. That isn't good for Republicans, for conservatism, or for America.
Not when we continue to be led by a man that is, if it's even possible at this point, becoming less rational and coherent every day. It's not just Biden's statements that seem utterly detached from the moment:
It's the absence of discretion and verbal filter:
…and the galling lack of mental acuity to even articulate the simplest of ideas:
There's just no reason that this man is still president. There's no reason demands for initiation of 25th Amendment protocols have not been demanded by the people. Except perhaps that somehow, some way, the Democrats have managed to select an even less capable politician as his legal successor.
What a time to be alive.
