We need to talk about this.
Yes, nearly half of those who responded (45%) said that the immigration has been too excessive, so it should be stopped for a while and recent arrivals should be deported back home.

They don't know what they're asking for or what that would entail.
First of all, Britons don't understand that their government is "legally" importing millions of military-aged men from Third World countries that don't share their language, customs, or values.
People see the insane number of immigrants taking over their communities and refusing to assimilate and assume, "They must be illegal, because legal immigrants are always good guys that just want to be British."
This has been the default position of the average normie for decades (on both sides of the Atlantic). But it's not just about HOW someone enters the country, it's more importantly about HOW MANY enter.
These numbers show the average Briton still doesn't understand the actual problem:
"Illegal immigration" is small in Britain compared to "legal" immigrants, temporary immigrants, and refugees. And yet Brits still think "legal" migration is generally a net positive for their country 👇
To sum up:
Brits see millions of migrants taking over their homeland and changing it into something entirely different.
Brits understand that this is a major problem to the very future of their people.
Brits still think "legal" migration is a net good in many areas for their nation.

It's not that Brits don't understand that assimilation isn't happening. Most of those polled acknowledge that today's immigrants, legal or illegal, aren't interested in adopting British values.
And on values:
Even so, people are ready to see change. They are starting to suspect that diversity is not "our strength," after all.
They are also beginning to get suspicious of polls:
Yes, that was an actual false dichotomy question on the poll where YouGov asked people if they would rather have deportations plus less healthcare workers OR more migrants with more healthcare workers, as if those are the only options!
So what does this all say about democracy?
The polling may be skewed, the questions may be unfair, but the real lesson here is that people really are willing to hold contradictory ideas if they're afraid of where their consistent conclusions will take them.
Democracy (mob rule) means rule by people's passions. Politics becomes about what people can get, not about what what is right for the nation. Under such a vending-machine mentality, no one wants to do anything hard. And addressing the immigration crisis will be hard.
If the UK is wise, it will reflect hard on the damage that secular liberalism has caused Western civilization (it may be fatal), jettison the idiotic platitudes about "muh democracy" (may I suggest a constitutional republic?), and understand that you can't have it all.
