That is one gigantic goldfish!
And I have a few questions...
Is it yours? Did YOU flush this little guy down the toilet? You did, didn't you? How long ago? Did you think we wouldn't notice?
Anyways, this massive, 9-pound goldfish was discovered by surveyors in South Carolina using a method called electrofishing.
According to Wikipedia, "Electrofishing uses direct current electricity flowing between a submerged cathode and anode. This affects the movement of the fish so that they swim toward the anode, where they can be caught."
Greenville County Rec shared their discovery on social media Monday:
The fish was released back into the pond, as it seemed to be making a pretty nice home there.
At nine pounds, the monster goldfish hasn't officially broken any records, but according to the International Game Fish Association the largest goldfish ever caught on a hook weighed in at 9 pounds 6 ounces.
Likely, however, there are much larger goldfish on this planet. Someone just has to hook them.
Check back in a few years. Maybe someone will hook this big guy for the world record. It's worth a shot!
I still know it was you.
