Well, that's unfortunate.
A politician named Adolf Hitler Uunona won a seat in a Namibian election with 85% of the vote.
Uunona swears he has "nothing to do with" Nazi ideology and says his "father named me after this man." He thinks that his father probably "didn't understand what Adolf Hitler stood for."
He usually just goes by Adolf Uunona, but his full name really is Adolf Hitler Uunona. He just feels like it would be "too late" to change it officially.
And I just want to interject here and say, it's not too late, man. You can change it! No one's gonna be upset if you change it.
Namibia has a complicated relationship with Germany, to say the least. They were formerly a German colony known as German South West Africa. And they were subjected to a genocide at the hands of German soldiers between 1904 and 1908 in which tens of thousands of people were killed.
There is still a small German-speaking community that lives in the country to this day.
