A little pup called "Skipper" was born with six legs at an Oklahoma animal hospital, and is the first believed to have survived with such a condition:
Here's how the animal hospital described her condition:
"She has 1 head and chest cavity but 2 pelvic regions, 2 lower urinary tracts, 2 reproductive systems, 2 tails and 6 legs among other things. It is likely that she was going to have a litter mate but they did not separate in utero. She also has signs of spina bifida along her spine. Positively, her organs appear to be in great shape, she is peeing and pooping, and is very strong!"
The hospital said Skipper is expected to live a full and normal life with some physical therapy to help with mobility as he gets older, but I still have some questions. How does one empty two bladders at once? Will all of those legs be usable? Will two dangle off the side, flapping as she runs? I can't imagine the confusion her cute little brain would have to go through to manage a set of extra limbs.
Still, I hope Skipper has an awesome life. Now if we could just have the same level of societal positivity and adoration for unborn humans with congenital conditions!
