You don't hate the media enough.
First, the post/headline:
OH NO! MUH FEELS!
ORANGE MAN BAD!
Now for the facts:
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security claims that both parents are connected to Tren de Aragua - the violent, sadistic Venezuelan gang that is taking over entire neighborhoods in cities across the United States.
The father, Maiker Espinoza-Escalona, is reportedly "a lieutenant of Tren De Aragua who oversees homicides, drug sales, kidnappings, extortion, sex trafficking and operates a torture house."
The mother, Yorely Escarleth Bernal Inciarte, reportedly "oversees recruitment of young women for drug smuggling and prostitution."
Both entered the U.S. illegally in May 2024.
Inciarte was detained for several months in Texas. After requesting to be deported, she was sent back to Venezuela.
Because of the claim that Escalona is a gang lieutenant, he was sent to Guantanamo Bay and then to the CECOT prison in El Salvador.
But ABC News trotted out the couple's family to tell us how loving and kind and sweet and innocent they are.
'My daughter has a tattoo of the year I was born and the year her dad was born,' Inciarte's mother told ABC News. 'She also has the name of her son and some flowers on her chest. Maiker is a tattoo artist and he would do her tattoos.'
How romantic. An aspiring tattoo artist who also loves cutting hair.
Marly, who is Escalona's sister, said her brother was also a barber and traveled to the U.S. for a better life.
'My brother is a 25-year-old guy, a dreamer, like all Venezuelans,' Marly said in Spanish. 'He loves cutting hair. He finished high school, he took courses in barbering and set up his barbershop in Venezuela. But things got a bit tough in Venezuela, so he emigrated to have a better life.'
The attack angle here is not really that illegal aliens got sent back home to their own countries. The media is beginning to learn that the vast majority of America supports deporting illegals.
The real point is to push the idea that the Trump admin is stealing kids from their parents.
ABC News made sure to put in a statement from the communist dictatorship of Venezuela to push the point:
'The U.S. government is robbing Venezuelan children,' Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello said on a radio show.
ABC News: "Look, we're not saying that Orange Hitler is kidnapping kids" [wink wink]
What's missing in this activist op-ed is context. ABC cleverly noted that the Office of Refugee Resettlement referred them to DHS for questions about the child that is in their custody, but didn't specify whether it had actually asked the office for a statement. As a result, the reader only gets one side of a story that's framed to make Trump look evil.
The father is accused of operating a torture house as a gang lieutenant and the mother is accused of being a child sex trafficker. Could it be that there are details we have yet to learn about abuse and credible danger that led the Trump admin to place this child with a foster family?
I don't know whether these parents are Tren de Aragua traffickers/murderers, whether the toddler was in danger, or even if the kid is theirs. Perhaps they really are innocent (besides breaking border laws).
But here's what I do know:
ABC News would certainly give a Democratic administration the benefit of the doubt, and that says everything.
