You know, sometimes it's simple when you win.

There are no new laws or regulations. RFK Jr. simply recommended that companies get synthetic ingredients out of food and, wouldn't you know it, those companies decide its in their financial interest to comply.

From the New York Post:

Ramon Laguarta, PepsiCo Inc. chair and chief executive officer, said in an April 24 conference call that the company will reduce artificial ingredients and has already begun doing so, as Food Business News reported.

'We've been leading the transformation of the industry now for a long time on sodium reduction, sugar reduction and better fats,' Laguarta said.

Laguarta also said that by the end of the year they would be through adding artificial colors to any of their corn or potato chips at FritoLay, making the switch back to natural.

The FDA has not banned these ingredients, but PepsiCo appears to be going above and beyond in order to lead the industry and try to rebrand their junk food as slightly less junky.

'We obviously stand by the science,' Laguarta said. 'Our products are very safe, and there's nothing to worry about. But we understand that there's probably going to be a consumer demand for more natural ingredients, and we're going to be accelerating that transition. Ideally, we can do this in a very pragmatic, orchestrated way as an industry and not create unnecessary panic or chaos.

'But we'll lead that transition, and in the next couple of years, we'll have migrated all the portfolio into natural colors or at least provide the consumer with natural color options. And every consumer will have the opportunity to choose what they prefer. So that's the journey we're undergoing.'

I've gotta say, if PepsiCo makes this transition I bet it'll be very good for business.

MAHA!
