I've been eyeballing Blue Bell's new Dr. Pepper Float flavored ice cream since I first heard it announced last month. Today I finally got my hands on the coveted pint-size carton (because I'm not about to buy an entire gallon just for a taste test) and upon checking out at Aldi this morning, the cashier asked me to tell him what I thought about this flavor. This one's for you, Bryson.
Full disclosure, Dr. Pepper is not my carbonated beverage of choice, but at the same time, Blue Bell can do no wrong, so my expectations were pretty neutral going in.
And then I opened the cute little carton and was greeted by the most beautiful swirl, which was such a lovely surprise.
My expectations now raised, I tasted the first bite and was again pleasantly surprised by this beautiful marriage of two iconic brands.
I thought it might taste like a flat ice cream float, and I'm not about that flat taste, so I was very happy to find that not only did it not taste flat, it almost tasted carbonated.
The Dr. Pepper flavored swirl was sherbert, which gave it a sharper flavor, while the vanilla swirl was the creamy goodness that I've come to expect from Blue Bell, and I was not disappointed in the least.
Twenty-three flavors may be a bit excessive since you can only distinguish cherry and vanilla, but it really worked for this so I don't even care what the 21 mystery flavors are. They taste good.
Look, taste, texture, this ice cream has it all.
Typically my food reviews lean towards the negative, but Blue Bell has never failed me yet.
A pint was well worth the $3.97 I spent. I may even buy an entire gallon one day.
