Andre Braugher, the 61-year-old actor known for his recent role as Captain Holt on the comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine, passed away on Monday.
The details of his death are limited. From NBC:
"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" actor Andre Braugher has died after a brief illness, a representative said. He was 61.
Details about the illness were not available. Representative Jennifer Allen confirmed the news, saying that Braugher died Monday.
Yeah, that leaves us with more questions than it answers. We've got the best medical knowledge and treatment in history, so I'm going to assume the family wants privacy and doesn't want to get into details.
Braugher won an Emmy for his role as police detective Frank Pembleton in Homicide: Life on the Street back in the ‘90s, and had further parts in TV shows like Law & Order: SVU and Gideon's Crossing, along with roles in films like The Tuskegee Airmen. He is survived by his wife, Ami Brabson, and three sons.
His work as Captain Holt on Nine-Nine left me in stitches more than once. Braugher was a master of keeping a straight face as he portrayed the uptight, meticulous police captain who refused to end his sentences with prepositions.
Co-star Terry Crews posted this on Instagram after the news broke:
In Braugher's honor, and until we learn more about his death, I'll leave you with this compilation of the best Captain Holt moments:
