Antwerp Mayor Bart De Wever thought it would be a good idea to conduct a live video interview without pants.

Even though we are nearly a year into mass video conferencing, it seems a few people still haven't learned that you should always, always wear pants and ensure there aren't any reflective surfaces behind you.

In the video, interviewer Kim Debrie had the awkward responsibility of informing the mayor that she and the public could see his underwear.

"I'm a bit distracted," she said awkwardly. "You are wearing a very nice top, you probably donned it especially for us. But under that top: Could you be there in your underwear?"

The mayor was understandably surprised but then leaned into the joke, showing everyone the mirror and owning his mistake. This shot says it all:

"I had not taken that into account. The year begins with a particularly embarrassing moment, I'll remember this for a long time," De Wever said later of the incident.

The mayor's political opponent offered him this "New Year's gift" as well:

Put on pants when you're on camera, folks! ๐Ÿ˜‚
