This was maybe the most shockingly bad press conference in the history of American politics.
Yesterday, a Special Counsel did Biden a favor and called him an "elderly man with poor memory," making an excuse for why they couldn't prosecute him for mishandling classified documents.
That's right: The president kept documents in his garage like this...
... and the guy they appointed to investigate him said that Biden's memory is so shot that he doesn't recommend prosecuting him for it.
The move was seen by conservatives as the weakest of excuses to avoid bringing shame and scandal to the regime. Simply noting that Biden is old was a safe play.
But Biden wasn't happy to be the puppet this time. He got mad last night.
REALLY mad.
So mad that he called a very rare, emergency press conference to address the entire situation.
It went ... poorly.
YUP.
There's even reference that I don't remember when my son died. How in the hell dare he raise that! Frankly, when I was asked the question I thought to myself, it wasn't any of their damn business.
Oh, so that's why you couldn't remember. You wouldn't tell them because it was none of their business. Your memory is fine, then?
Let me tell you something ... I wear since the day he died the rosary he got from Our Lady of [PAUSE]. Every Memorial Day ...
IMMEDIATELY after defending his memory he completely blanked out and forgot where he got the rosary.
And his defense of his good memory only got worse.
This was about 30 seconds later:
He called Sisi the "President of Mexico" and said he asked him to open the gate between his country and Israel.
Oh yes, the historic Israeli-Mexico border dispute!
How dumb of us to forget! But not Joe, he's got a perfect memory!
Peter Doocy from Fox News dared to question Biden about his memory and got more than he bargained for as an answer:
Doocy: Mr. President, how bad is you memory?
Biden: My memory is so bad I let you speak.
Alright, not gonna lie, that's some pretty funny Dark Brandon stuff.
I mean, it does make Doocy's point, but it is a little clever.
Then President Biden claimed the Special Counsel lied about their findings that Biden accidentally shared classified info with his ghostwriter.
Biden took zero responsibility for mishandling classified material (something he explicitly promised during his 2020 campaign that he would do) and instead threw his staff under the bus.
I mean, the buck has to stop at the top, doesn't it? If his staff is that careless then it IS his responsibility.
Here's the irony: This whole bungled press conference undercut the defense the Special Counsel gave him.
Logically, if his memory is fine, then he should be charged. If he allowed his staff access to classified materials, which they then mishandled, then he should also be prosecuted for that.
The Special Counsel report was so politically damning for Joe Biden that it was rumored that Biden was supposed to step down from the 2024 race in this speech, but instead went rogue.
Bill Ackman has a (long) analysis of what happened as well.
I am sure his staff told him not to respond to the report. He didn't listen and called an emergency press conference. It seemed like a desperate act of a fading and angry man. It was sad to watch.
And no, Mexico is not in the Middle East, but we can learn from Egypt how it controls its border with Gaza. Perhaps that was the confusion. The border with Mexico has to be on the mind of POTUS.
This is the moment when you need your closest friend, your wife, and your family to wrap their arms around you and say it's time.
It is likely that this has already happened, but he won't listen.
He is not listening to his team, his family, or his closest friends.
He is angry that his leadership and competency are being questioned.
At a certain point, my grandfather acted the same way. Some get angry as they fade. Others decline with smiles, laughter, and joy.
This is why we have the 25th Amendment. The problem is that the people have no confidence in the vice president.
Biden should simply say that he will not run for reelection and allow for a real democratic primary. There is still time. He can then stay in office without the pressure to prove himself, and then exit gracefully.
We have traveled beyond the absurd. And sadly, it is only going to get worse.
I think Bill may be right.
But we might as well watch the ship go down with some popcorn in hand!!
