California DMV Says Woman Named Isis Can't Keep "IAMISIS" License Plate

As far as we know, this lady is not a radical Islamic terrorist.

She is Isis though!

Yes, the DMV says Isis Wharton of Northern California, who was named after the Egyptian goddess, Isis, has a personalized license plate that goes against Section 206 of the California Code of Regulations. This "allows the agency to refuse plates that associate with anything illegal or violent," you know, like ISIS.

Isis Wharton purchased the personalized license plate back in 2022, paying an initial $50 and then an additional $50 for each renewal.

The DMV said in a letter to Isis that she can request a hearing about the decision to revoke her plate, and if she does not, they'll simply send her new plates. It is unclear whether or not she will be able to fight the DMV and keep her plate as is.

Obviously, the plates should be protected by the First Amendment, but this is California, so, yeah.

I think there's only one thing left for Isis to do, and that is to record a video in the style of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and send it to Sacramento.
