Just in case you needed a reminder of one of the main issues at stake in this election:

An illegal alien from Mexico, deported 16 times from the United States, has been sentenced to just one year in prison for causing a crash that killed 64-year-old Scott Miller in Conifer, Colorado.

"Deported 16 times from the United States."

Seems like there should be some mechanism for keeping these people out of the U.S. once we throw them out!

That would prevent many crises like these from happening, presumably:

In June, 47-year-old Ignacio Cruz-Mendoza was arrested for vehicular homicide concerning the crash that killed Miller but the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office filed only misdemeanor traffic violation charges against the illegal alien.

This guy broke the law 16 times by entering America illegally and was behind the wheel of heavy machinery that he had no legal permit to operate within the U.S.

Even if it was a complete accident with no fault on his part, what lunatic DA would look at that and think downgrading a man's death to a traffic violation is moral or just?

Before prosecutors could file felony charges against him, Cruz-Mendoza pled guilty the following month to the traffic violations — making him eligible for just a one-year prison sentence for killing Miller.

To make things arguably even more outrageous, the perp wasn't on a joyride or a drunk driving binge; he was working for a U.S. employer:

...Cruz-Mendoza was driving a semi truck for the Indio, California-based Monique Trucking company on Highway 285 near Conifer when the vehicle veered off the road, causing the pipe and angle iron he was carrying to spill on top of five vehicles in his path.

Here is Miller's daughter. Try to tell me justice was done for this family. I'll wait.

This perp was kicked out and returned nearly 20 times, somehow still got a job driving a massive truck, wasn't flagged by any employment authorities and again deported, managed to cause an accident that killed a guy, and now will be free to continue life as usual after one year in the slammer.

Yeah call me crazy but I think there's something insanely wrong with our system.
