A former aide to Governor Kathy Hochul and her husband just got nabbed by the FBI and are being charged with acting as an agent of the Chinese Communist Party.

To be fair, I kinda assumed everyone in the Democratic Party was working for the CCP at this point.

Linda Sun and her husband, Christopher Hu, got the wake-up call of a lifetime when the feds came knocking on their $3.5 million home in Manhasset, Long Island.

(Who says crime doesn't pay?!)

Here's what the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Eastern District of New York announced in a press release:

Earlier today, in federal court in Brooklyn, an indictment was unsealed charging Linda Sun with violating and conspiring to violate the Foreign Agents Registration Act, visa fraud, alien smuggling, and money laundering conspiracy. Sun is alleged to have acted on behalf of the government of the People's Republic of China (the 'PRC') and the Chinese Communist Party (the 'CCP'). Sun's husband and co-defendant Chris Hu was also charged with money laundering conspiracy, as well as conspiracy to commit bank fraud and misuse of means of identification.

"As alleged, while appearing to serve the people of New York as Deputy Chief of Staff within the New York State Executive Chamber, the defendant and her husband actually worked to further the interests of the Chinese government and the CCP," stated United States Attorney Breon Peace. "The illicit scheme enriched the defendant's family to the tune of millions of dollars. Our Office will act decisively to prosecute those who serve as undisclosed agents of a foreign government."

Meanwhile, the governor's office is claiming innocence, like a teenager swearing they've never heard of weed. According to Hochul's press secretary, Sun's employment was "terminated" back in "March 2023 after discovering evidence of misconduct," after which they "immediately reported her actions to law enforcement and have assisted law enforcement throughout this process."

Linda Sun cut her teeth under Andrew Cuomo — because of course she did. She's been bouncing around various state gigs, from the Department of Labor to Empire State Development, with a résumé that either screams "networking" or "spying" in all caps.

But this is America! Why choose between networking or spying when you can do both?
