Everyone is whaling on Mitch McConnell for his vote against Pete Hegseth, which forced JD Vance to break the tie ๐Ÿคจ

With Republicans like these, who needs Democrats?

Yes, Mitch McConnell, the long-running Senate Majority Leader for the GOP, voted AGAINST a Republican SecDef nominee, then ran over to shake hands with Sen. Chris Coons, the top Democrat on the Senate Appropriations Committee, which allocates funds to defense contractors like Lockheed and Raytheon.

(You may remember Coons from the time Joe Biden got handsy with his daughter.)

THERE'S A REASON IT'S CALLED THE SWAMP.

Republicans have a majority in the Senate with 53 seats. Despite that, three voted with the Democrats, forcing JD Vance to break the tie in order to get the Republican nominee approved.

People are not happy. Take it from the Navy SEAL who sent Osama bin Laden to meet his Maker ๐Ÿ‘‡

It's important to note that Hegseth, along with Vance, have close allies in new defense ventures that aim to disrupt the tight-knit military industrial complex that has had a particular quid-pro-quo since the end of WW2. McConnell, who was elected FORTY YEARS AGO to the Senate in 1984, represents the old guard.

New companies such as Palantir and Anduril (yes, both Lord of the Rings references) are looking to compete with dinosaurs like Raytheon, but as is the case with any industry, the dinosaurs like to circle the wagons to keep the young bucks from taking their profits (for more on that, see this interview with former SEAL Shawn Ryan and Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale).

The question: Is the old guard circling said wagons at the cost of national security?

Why would men like McConnell vote overwhelmingly for Democrat nominees for SecDef, but not Hegseth, particularly since Hegseth wants to cut bureaucratic/ideological bloat and make the military good at killing again?

To voters with representatives like McConnell: Even if you don't think Hegseth is the best man for the job, it might be worth asking what your career politicians are up to.
