Super data-driven FiveThirtyEight: "The fight to ban abortion is rooted in the 'Great Replacement' theory"

FiveThirtyEight published an article on Monday titled "How The Fight To Ban Abortion Is Rooted In The 'Great Replacement' Theory" written by Alex Samuels and Monica Potts.

It may not be immediately obvious how the fight over abortion rights is tied to the "great replacement" theory — the debunked conspiracy theory promoted by some Republican politicians who claim that Democrats support more immigration to "replace" white American voters.

Let me get this straight...

Apparently, white people are so scared that non-white people will outnumber them that they want to fight to make sure every non-white baby gets born?

I think it's the other way around.

Wouldn't such people would want to make sure non-white babies are not born?

Strange enough, the authors themselves acknowledge this logic is "deeply convoluted."

Even on its own terms, though, the logic of tying the anti-abortion movement to the racist great replacement theory is deeply convoluted — and downright inaccurate. For instance, fewer women are seeking abortions, and women of color — particularly those who are Black — are more likely than white women to seek an abortion.

Moreover, it's likely that we'll see more women of color die as abortions become more limited, in spite of arguments from some on the far right that a near-total abortion ban is a good thing for people of color, primarily Black people. In fact, according to analysis published in the December edition of the population-research journal "Demography," a hypothetical total abortion ban would lead to more pregnancy-related deaths among non-Hispanic Black people than among any other racial group.

Upon what "data and evidence" do they base the article's main claim?

Mind you, FiveThirtyEight's mission statement says they "use data and evidence to advance public knowledge."

However, nearly all sources referenced in this article are woke scholars giving their own analyses or opinions. Quoting a bunch of woke "historians" and "sociologists" is not data, nor is it evidence.

Where are the primary sources of anti-abortionists fighting to ban abortion because of the "Great Replacement" theory?
