Carla Jefferson has called the St. Petersburg police and the Pinellas County Sheriff's Department over 12,000 times this year, and you might think that she lives in a really dangerous neighborhood or even that she must be a little paranoid to call for help that much, but no.

Jefferson calls the police to "harass, belittle, swear at, or argue with" whoever picks up the phone.

Jefferson's calls account for 10% of all incoming phone calls at the St. Petersburg Department, and at one point, Jefferson called the precinct 512 times in one 24-hour span.

St. Petersbug spokesperson Yolanda Fernandez said,

"They're talking to people who are scared, who are on the worst day of their life because they need police. And on top of that, they have to deal with somebody who's just calling to harass them.

"She doesn't call to ask for any police services. She calls to harass, to cuss and just degrade the call takers," Fernandez said. "We're kind of at a situation now where her calls are interfering with our ability to respond to regular residents who need police response."

Jefferson was initially arrested on August 8 when the call count was around 11,000.

But she made her $400 bail, and apparently, called the police 1,500 more times.

So, the police dropped by and gave her an affidavit, informing her that her actions were going to result in prosecution. What did she do after receiving the affidavit?

She called the police.

She told them to come get her because "she loves playing this game," so they did.

I'm not so sure the police won this round. I mean now Jefferson can yell at them all she wants without making a call at all.
