Axios reported on Tuesday that four people flagged by the FBI's Terror Screening Database have been arrested at the border since October 1st of 2020.

The Customs and Border Protection agency confirmed to Congress today that four people arrested at the southern border since Oct. 1 match names on the FBI's Terrorist Screening Database, a congressional aide briefed on the correspondence told Axios.

Why it matters: Three of the people arrested were from Yemen and one was from Serbia. The four arrests are more than the number of similar people taken into custody during recent full fiscal years, according to the source.

The terrorist watchlist is used by the FBI to track and detain both known and suspected terrorists. Newsweek was quick to point out in their headline that MOST of the suspected terrorists caught entering the country are not caught on the border, but a few paragraphs in noted,

CBP also announced on February 3 that it apprehended 11 Iranian citizens at the border near Yuma, Arizona. It also confirmed it has arrested 14 people from Iran in 2021 so far.

Business Insider ran the headline today "Republicans are recycling Trump's fear-mongering about terrorists entering the US through Mexico" swiveling to talking about right-wing extremism as a much greater threat.
