Yes, in one week Gavin Newsom has randomly decided to backtrack his most idiotic Democratic policies and present himself as the "reasonable Democrat" after letting California go to pot for six years.
In a budget presentation on Wednesday, Mr. Newsom will propose freezing enrollment of undocumented adults in the state's version of Medicaid, known as Medi-Cal, as soon as January. He also will seek to charge those who remain in the program $100 a month beginning in 2027. The governor estimates that the changes combined would save the state $5.4 billion by fiscal year 2028-29.
He's going to stop allowing illegal aliens to jump on Medi-Cal AND he's going to start charging (well, $100/month) for illegal aliens already receiving healthcare.
I guess that's better than free?
This is also in an effort to make back money that Newsom claims was lost during the Great Tariff War of 2025.
Because THAT'S the problem with California's economy.
Mr. Newsom, a Democrat, blamed California's shortfall partly on a projected $16 billion drop in tax revenues resulting from President Trump's turbulent trade wars, saying the tariffs have weakened the state's economy. He began referring to the impacts as a 'Trump Slump.'
Yes, it's all Trump's fault, but Newsom is going to start charging $100/month to illegal aliens for health insurance, so that'll fix everything.
Even the New York Times acknowledges that this is bogus, since it's the billions spent on medical care for illegals that California didn't anticipate which has caused the budget problems.
Providing health care to undocumented immigrants has turned out to cost billions of dollars more than California leaders anticipated when they made Medi-Cal available last year to all low-income residents, regardless of immigration status.
They're spending about $9.1 billion insuring illegals every year now.
No wonder they want to backtrack!
I guess handing out free stuff to illegals costs a lot more than Democrats realized, ey?
