Behold:
Coloradans, does this make you proud of your state's "progressive" justice system?
From CBS News:
The Arapahoe District Attorney's Office is defending its decision to give probation and community service to a teenager who was driving illegally and, in the country illegally, when he killed a woman.
The accident happened last July in Aurora.
The victim, Kaitlyn Weaver, was headed home from work when a Jeep, barreling through a residential neighborhood, slammed into her car. The speed limit in the area was 45 mph. Investigators say the driver was doing more than 90 mph.
'She didn't even see him coming,' her dad, John Weaver, said. 'That's how fast he was going. She was effectively killed instantly.'
Her family unplugged her from life support two days later.
The district attorney initially decided to go for a measly two years in juvie as punishment for crushing a 24-year-old American woman to death while driving 40+ mph over the speed limit with a bunch of his friends riding in the back.
But three months ago, a new DA named Amy Padden took office. She decided that two years in jail was too extreme, so instead, she said the boy would be offered probation and community service if he pled guilty.
And it gets worse:
'Why the change? If he had taken a firearm and recklessly just shot it and killed someone, this would be a different case. They would be pushing it completely differently,' Weaver said. 'There's no deterrence.'
There's also no financial liability, he says, despite his daughter's medical bills, which came to nearly $1 million.
The Jeep was uninsured, and the juvenile's mom says he took it without permission, so she isn't responsible either.
This kid is in America illegally. He got to play "Grand Theft Auto," kill a woman, and get off with a slap on the wrist.
In addition to 100 hours of community service, the teen is required to attend school and not break any laws.
Too bad he didn't do something like briefly block the entrance to an abortion clinic while praying. I bet Colorado would have thrown the book at him!
Here's what Arapahoe County Assistant District Attorney Ryan Brackley had to say:
He says before any plea deal, prosecutors consider 'the impact on the victims and the community,' 'the characteristics of the defendant such as age, culpability, and level of remorse,' and the 'goals of sentencing, including deterrence, rehabilitating the offender, treating similarly situated offenders equitably, and holding each offender accountable.'
This is what happens when you add Marxism to justice, folks.
A woman was brutally and savagely killed by a person who should not even be in this country, but the killer got community service because hanging him from the gallows would have a bad "impact" on his "community," which is Marxist-speak for "we don't want the people groups we favor to feel sad."
Meanwhile, the family of the victim is saddled with the debt on top of the haunting pain of death. There was no justice for them.
If you have any doubt as to my assertion that DEI communism was present in this farce of a ruling, read Ryan Brackley's statement again and stare directly at the word "equitably." I'll wait.
Woke justice is not justice.
