Newsom, often compared to a used car salesman, has been one of the most divisive and shiftiest politicians in America today, going back to his time as San Francisco's mayor in 2006, when he had an affair with the wife of his friend and campaign manager.
Newsom was made famous during the Covid pandemic for enforcing some of the most draconian lockdowns in America. Despite the executive mandates he and his allies forced on Californians, he was seen partying it up maskless at one of the most prestigious restaurants in the nation.
Newsom has often made sweeping statements about how he's tougher and more effective than Republicans on issues like crime and the border. In 2024, he boasted about sending National Guardsmen to the border, despite the fact that no one could find any evidence of said operation.
Newsom is also known for some of his bizarre interactions with the peasantry. During the wildfires of 2024, he went viral for trying to escape a panicked woman by telling her he needed to get cell signal to call the president.
In 2024, Newsom also found himself in hot water after raising fast food workers' minimum wage to $20 an hour, causing many businesses to close entirely, when the public learned Panera Bread would be exempt from the law. As it turns out, Panera's CEO is a big donor to Newsom. The governor claimed to know nothing about it, but then changed the policy so Panera would have to comply.
More recently, Newsom went viral for telling an NBC podcast that he raised himself on Wonder Bread and basketball, inferring that he's a poor man of the streets, when he actually grew up among the wealthiest, most privileged circles in the state.
Newsom has also been accused of breaking numerous promises, from closing the Aliso Canyon natural gas storage facility to giving state tax incentives for electric vehicles to reducing homelessness with sweeping new policies (homelessness has risen more than 20% during his time in office).
