Los Angeles County recently announced that pets are now eligible for free COVID testing. As of Thursday, zero out of the 177 animals who have been tested have been positive for the virus so far.
Obviously, this is a big issue.
It does make sense that they would be testing pets in LA, a place where many households have more pets than children and where people are actually still concerned about the spread of Covid.
But I personally do not envy the person whose job is to stick one of those nasal swabs up the nose of some vicious dog.
Pets are eligible for free tests if they have been exposed to a person with Covid or if they've shown symptoms of the virus.
The CDC says that the risk of spreading Covid to pets is very low, but it is possible for a pet to catch it from close contact with a sick person.
But it's not just pets that are being tested now. They are also testing livestock and some wildlife, including deer, raccoons, and, of course, bats.
Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "sick as a dog."
