It's a tale as old as time: a frightened child who doesn't want to go to bed because of the monster under the bed.

But for one Kansas babysitter, that story became all too real.
The Barton County Sheriff's Office says that as she was checking under the bed to alleviate the child's fears, she came face to face with an intruder.
The man sprang out, knocking over her and the child in the bed before fleeing the house.
The man was identified as someone who used to live at the house but was barred from being there due to a protection from abuse order.
Later that night, the police caught him coming back to the house.
The charges he got booked on were suspicion of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, aggravated battery, child endangerment, felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer, and violation of a protection from abuse order.
It sounds like his intention was to take the child and would have if the babysitter had ignored the child's fears.
But the worst part about this whole story is that poor kid, who will never willingly go to bed ever again.

The monster under the bed is being held on a $500,000 bond.
