Can we talk about how, with just a couple of seemingly insignificant words the mainstream media can create unwarranted and over-the-top outrage over something completely normal?
Here's a story that was run by Fortune about private school vouchers.
Immediately, the headline casts this dad as a villain, doesn't it?
He was SO concerned about lessons on gender identity THAT he decided to go radical and... send his kid to a Catholic school using vouchers.
As if sending his kids to a Catholic school is the end of the world! Or just going to private school is the worst thing that could ever happen to a child!
The story itself actually represents the arguments of the pro-voucher side pretty well. I'd recommend reading it even. They quote from advocates on both sides of the issue and point out what they see as flaws of both systems.
But the headline, which is what most people read, tells a different story.
And it would be SO easy to fix!
Yeah, you just remove the word "so", insert a comma, replace the word "that" with "so" further down, and you have a neutral headline.
It's really easy to do.
But for some reason the editors at Fortune want you to know exactly what to think about parents who use school vouchers and how unreasonable they are.
If you choose to do anything other than send your kids to government schools this is how you'll be castigated by the powers that be.
The bias is out of this world!
