The new Wicked merchandising from Barbie maker Mattel has a tiny problem with big consequences.
The movie's website is www.wickedmovie.com, but the packaging on the dolls lists a different website ... one that does "cinematic and parody porn."
Mattel has now apologized for printing a porn link on toys meant for little girls. The company is recalling all of the toys from retailers.
'Mattel was made aware of a misprint on the packaging of the Mattel Wicked collection dolls, primarily sold in the U.S., which intended to direct consumers to the official WickedMovie.com landing page,' the statement said. 'We deeply regret this unfortunate error and are taking immediate action to remedy this.'
'Parents are advised that the misprinted, incorrect website is not appropriate for children,' the statement continues. 'Consumers who already have the product are advised to discard the product packaging or obscure the link and may contact Mattel Customer Service for further information.'
One last twist before you go.
Because somehow, every story in 2024 involves this guy ๐
It turns out that the porn company (we are purposely withholding the name because this PR will sadly give them more traffic) was part of the whole Stormy Daniels thing.
According to The Washington Post, the company was a minor focal point in the New York criminal case of Donald Trump, since it was the same company that sponsored a celebrity golf tournament where he met Stormy Daniels, who was there to promote the studio.
What a time to be alive.
Anyway, given last year's lackluster toy sales, it's possible this pre-Christmas hit is going to be devastating for Mattel.
