Men try to prove how tough they are in front of girls all the time, but Nolan Sledge, a Memphis police officer, shot himself in the shoulder to get the attention of his girlfriend.
I'm not making that up: This is straight from Fox 13's website:
Depending on your perspective, that's either pretty tough or pretty crazy.
Maybe a little of both?
The pair had an argument the day before he put a bullet in his shoulder, and he was feeling pretty down about it, so he decided to show her how much he loved her.
The Memphis Police Department (MPD) weren't feeling too great about it either, so they decided to show him how much they didn't want a crazy guy on the streets in uniform.
The Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST) recommended that former MPD officer Nolan Sledge be decertified on December 12, 2024.
According to the POST Commission, Sledge called MPD Communications on August 19, 2023, and threatened to commit suicide. He took his off-duty gun and fired a single shot into his shoulder, his decertification report said. Sledge did not suffer any serious injuries from the self-inflicted gunshot wound.
If the POST Commission rules against Sledge, he will lose his ability to work in any law enforcement positions in Tennessee, though he could work in other states.
There's no word on whether Sledge's girl was impressed by his willingness to shoot himself take a bullet for her.
