Minnesota State Reps. Jerry Newton and Heather Edelson recently introduced HF 1715, which would prohibit "the sale of nonelectric powered lawn and garden equipment."

"On and after January 1, 2025, new lawn and garden equipment sold, offered for sale, or distributed in or into Minnesota must be powered solely by electricity," the bill reads.

The bill also specifies "lawn and garden equipment" refers to any of the following "spark ignited rated at or below 19 kilowatts or 25 gross horsepower":

  • Lawnmower
  • Leaf blower
  • Hedge clipper
  • Chainsaw
  • Lawn edger
  • String trimmer
  • Bush cutter

California Gov. Gavin Newsom recently signed a bill that would also ban gas-powered landscaping equipment by 2024.
