A grand jury in New Mexico has just announced an indictment of actor Alec Baldwin after his shooting accident where his prop gun fired a live round on the set of the film Rust, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
This comes after the charges against the actor were dropped last year, then taken back up again in November in what seems to be a never-ending case.
The decision to indict Baldwin was announced Friday after a New Mexico grand jury heard evidence presented by special prosecutors Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis. He was charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter.
"We look forward to our day in court," said Baldwin's attorneys, Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro, of Quinn Emanuel.
There's not a trial date yet, but if the actor is convicted he could face a maximum penalty of 18 months in prison for the killing.
Baldwin, who said "someone is responsible ... but I know it's not me," is not the only person facing trial in the death of Hutchins.
The film's armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was charged last year with involuntary manslaughter, and her trial is set to begin Feb. 21. She has pleaded not guilty.
