Oh look, the Biden Administration planned to keep that Chinese spy balloon story a secret from us

You guys all remember that Chinese spy balloon story? You know, the one that flew across the entire US before we shot it down because we're straight up sissies? Yeah, well, it turns out the Biden Administration was going to try to cover up the story — that is, until normal everyday Americans caught the balloon on camera as it flew over Montana.

Yes, the old "don't say anything" method. Works great, except that when the kids find out what's going on, you gotta fess up and then you lose their trust.

"Before it was spotted publicly, there was the intention to study it and let it pass over and not ever tell anyone about it," a former senior US official told NBC News Friday, nearly 11 months after the balloon penetrated American airspace and began a meandering week-long tour of sensitive military sites.

When the North American Aerospace Defense Command saw the huge spycraft enter US airspace over Alaska Jan. 27, commander Gen. Glen VanHerck called Gen. Mark Milley, President Biden's top military adviser, to flag the administration on the alarming intrusion.

But Biden himself was not informed until Jan. 31, and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin was too "focused" on a diplomatic trip to Asia to pay heed, according to multiple officials in the administration and Congress.

So here was this balloon collecting data and sending it back to Beijing, and our government was planning on keeping it a secret. And seriously, was this an effort at hiding incompetence or hiding our collusion with the Chinese spy state?

I wouldn't be asking any of these questions had The Billings Gazette not picked up this story in early February. Without them, we still wouldn't even know about the spy balloon because our government would've kept it a secret.

The nanny state does things like this, assuming it's better for the adults to know and the kiddos (us) to not know. This is seriously how they view us.

Man, isn't it great to know how secretive our government can be regarding their incompetence? I mean, in this case they were actually too incompetent to hide their incompetence, which is just a doozy!

Keep up the great work, Biden Administration. Can't wait to see what kind of stories you'll try to hide from us in 2024!!
