Easy answers to 3 "slam dunk" questions meant to disprove the fact that a fetus is a person

Wednesday afternoon, in the wake of the Supreme Court's landmark decision to leave untouched a critical Texas anti-abortion bill, noted abortion-rights supporter and CNN host Chris Cuomo rhetorically asked his followers this profound set of questions:

Those queries from Prof. Chatman are actually a few years old, but they're dredged up every time abortion rights are under threat in the U.S. The latter two thought experiments are easily answerable:

- An individual, under the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, is only a U.S. citizen upon birth. So, no, the mere presence of an unborn human in the U.S. is not enough to establish citizenship (but it should still be illegal to kill him, just as it should be illegal to murder anybody, citizen or non-citizen).

- As for insuring an unborn child, that's a question to be decided by a mother and her insurer. It's absolutely possible that an insurer might allow for a life insurance policy on an unborn child. It's possible they might not. In either case, it's in no way outside the realm of possibility.

-That leaves the question of child support: Should a father be forced to support the woman whom he has helped make pregnant? Should he be required by law to provide financial and/or material support to the mother of his child (and by extension the child itself)?

...The answer is yes! Of course he should. It's silly that a law professor would even ask that question. If you help create a child you absolutely have a responsibility to provide for him, and for his mother. It's basic common sense, morality, decency, good law—it's all of those things. This is so easy.

It's almost as if the pro-choicers asking this question are juuuuust on the verge of discovering something profound and meaningful about unborn life. Maybe they'll get there some day!
