Record number of Americans have negative mental health and I can't possibly imagine why

In the year of our Lord 2020, it seems the mental and emotional wellbeing of Americans has fallen to new lows.

I know this comes as a ginormous surprise to all of you, so I'll give you a moment to absorb this revelatory news.

Now that you've had time to process, let's break down these new poll results released Monday by Gallup.

This year, only 76% of American adults say they feel positive about their mental health, compared to 85% in 2019. Since Gallup started taking this annual survey in 2001, the percentage has always stayed between 81% and 89%. Considering the population of the U.S., this nine-point drop represents tens of millions of people.

In 2019, 42% of adults said their mental health was not only good but "excellent." This year, that category dropped to 34%.

Gallup identifies the 'Rona (shockingly) as the main culprit behind the looming mental health crisis.

"More than eight months into the coronavirus pandemic in the U.S., Americans' reports of mental health are much worse than a year ago," said Gallup.

What Gallup does not discuss is โ€“ oh, you know โ€“ the entire media establishment fear-mongering for months on end while despotic public servants misuse their power to effectively imprison and impoverish their citizens. It's easier to simply label mental distress as due to the 'Rona as opposed to the tens of millions who have lost their livelihoods and are struggling to feed their families due to spurious lockdown edicts.

But I digress.

Gallup's data showed the groups with double-digit declines in mental health included women, unmarried individuals, older adults, lower-income individuals, and those who attend religious services "less than weekly."

Those who attend religious services frequently saw the least change. ๐Ÿค”

(Remember, church isn't essential so stay home!!)

Among political groups, Republicans actually saw the greatest drop. Part of that was because self-identified Democrats were already 26 points lower than their GOP counterparts in 2019 (56% to 30%). Another factor might be that the majority of small business owners who have been absolutely gutted by government mandates this year tend to lean conservative.

Republicans' mental health dropped to 41% this year, while Democrats' dropped to 29%. Independents also dropped double digits from 44% to 32%.

Here's the real kicker though: the poll also measured Americans' physical health. Based on the media's 24/7 proclamation that this is a civilization-ending pandemic brought by Donald Trump that is killing billions and why-don't-you-put-on-a-mask-or-you'll-kill-grandma, you'd think Americans would be rating their physical health much, much lower.

Nope. Self-reported physical health has stayed consistent โ€“ which matches other metrics like our nation's total mortality numbers from 2020 to previous years โ€“ and most people (79%) say they're doing fine across the board. Funny how that works.

In fact, just to illustrate this point, I used the CDC's total mortality numbers from weeks 1-48 this year and compared it to the last three years. Gaze at the exponential increase in death that has rocked our nation this year:

Is this some of that science I've been told about? Source: CDC

Besides older age, income and access to healthcare were the primary factors in this latter category.

Since that's the case, it's a good thing we've done things this year that have strengthened people's businesses and finances and we haven't forced hospitals into bankruptcy by restricting their services.

I'm sure that in 2021, both our nation's mental and physical health will be just peachy!
