This afternoon Red Sox catcher Danny Jansen will become the first MLB player to play for both teams in a single game

Pretty cool stuff out of Boston right here.

Tonight at Fenway Park, Boston catcher Danny Jansen will take the field against his former team, the Toronto Blue Jays, as the teams play the remainder of a suspended June ballgame.

Jansen was a rostered member of the Blue Jays when the teams met in June, and was up to bat when the game was suspended; so he will have played for both teams in the game, and will begin the game by catching against his own pinch-hitter.

Jansen was traded from Toronto to Boston back in July, which paved the way for this historic moment.

The start of Monday's continuation of a suspended game between the Red Sox and Blue Jays will be history-making.

Toronto's Danny Jansen was at the plate on June 26 at Fenway Park in the top of the second with one out and the count 0-1 when play was halted by rain.

On July 27, Jansen was traded to the Red Sox for three prospects.

So not only will the continuation on Monday at 2:05 ET start with the Blue Jays sending up a pinch-hitter for Jansen, but Red Sox manager Alex Cora confirmed Friday that he will put Jansen in behind the plate to replace Reese McGuire …

Once all this happens, Jansen will become the first player in Major League history to appear in the same game for both teams.

Bro is catching and hitting in the same at bat!!

And now I have an excuse to plop down on the couch this afternoon and watch some historic baseball!

Update: Here's what the game looked like when it picked back up.
