I hate to say it, but with this economy, can you blame 'em?
The latest numbers show that American workers want nearly 80 grand in yearly salary to start a new job. That's, essentially, $40/hr.
According to the latest New York Federal Reserve employment survey released Monday, the average "reservation wage," or the minimum acceptable salary offer to switch jobs, rose to $78,645 during the second quarter of 2023.
That's shockingly high, but so is the cost of living in Biden's economy.
(As is trying to eke out a living in New York.)
This is the highest number ever.
And while the demand for higher pay increases, the market and employers are surging to try to come close to the demand, increasing base pay tremendously.
Employers have been trying to keep pace with the wage demands, pushing the average full-time offer up to $69,475, a 14% surge in the past year. The actual expected annual salary rose to $67,416, a gain of more than $7,000 from a year ago and also a new high.
I guess this is the classic salary negotiation, just on a nationwide scale.
These numbers come from New York, but Atlanta is seeing similar increases as well.
